There is a new craze – The Image is Found call it the “Crazybooth” and it fits. Our good friends Kristin and Glenn threw a radical New Years party and had me come out for the night to set up this madness.
It takes a little lighting know-how but the fun thing about it is the fact that it gives people something fun to do and a unique way to remember the event! Leave a comment if you think we should add this to our wedding options!

The best part about this job is the relationships we get to develop. In many ways, the wedding is just the beginning …. Christmas card photos, family portraits, babies, children, events – the opportunities grow and grow as the years go by. If we do our job right, we hope that you’ll want us back for years and years to come!
Brenda and Phil were wed three years ago, and had a gorgeous La Jolla wedding that we photographed (blog post). I’ve also photographed when they bought a house several years ago, which was really fun. Right before Christmas this year, we went out and spent some time in Balboa Park to update their portfolio
Phil is overseas a lot, and you can really tell they treasure their time together. Don’t they look elegant in their outfits? After the shoot, the two of them headed to dinner at the Prado and a show at the Old Globe
As we continue to settle down in our new location there is plenty of cleaning to be done and trash to be taken out. We made one last trash run before going to lunch.
This week was our first week out of Little Italy so for Bauman Lunch we had to return to say goodbye to one of our favorite Little Italy restaurants, Mimmos Italian Village. Mimmos is located on India Street and has been around since 1973. The inside of the restaurant is decorated like a village so that when you are sitting indoors, it feels like you are sitting outdoors. A nice touch, specially for dinner when it feels like you are dinning by candle light out in an Italian village.
Mimmos specializes in sub sandwiches, pastas and pizza. They also have a great salad bar. This week I went with one of my favorite sandwiches that they make, the Hot Pastrami Sub which comes with pastrami, provolone Cheese, lettuce, tomatoes, onions, pepperoncinis, oil & vinegar. This sandwich is also one of Jared’s favorites. Joe went with the Hot Spicy Capricola, which had hot melted cappicola, provolone cheese, jalapenos, lettuce, tomatoes, onions, oil & vinegar. It sounded very good, so I had to talk Joe in trading half of his sandwich for half of mine. Jacob desided he was going to stay away from the subs and had the Oven Baked Penne Pasta.
This restaurant is such a great place to hang out for lunch. They have a patio upstairs in the back of the restaurant that’s perfect for outdoor eating in the beautiful San Diego weather.
I hope that we still visit the restaurant every now and then, even though we are no longer in Little Italy.

Jennifer and Kendall are officially Bauman Photographers family and we feel as though we are a part of theirs!!! We headed out for another awesome New Orleans wedding on a beautiful day and arrived in much cooler weather but in a very special area of New Orleans. Typically we are centered around the French Quarter so this was great to experience the Garden District fully. We were able to explore some different restaurants in the area and it had a very quiet, tree lined and residential feeling to the whole area. The street car near our hotel would drop us off right in the French Quarter if we ever did want to head out for some fun in the evenings.
The weekend started with an amazing rehearsal dinner at the Commanders Palace Restaurant which had a gorgeous courtyard, specialty appetizers and drinks including the French Quarter flaming café brûlot We got a couple casual shots of the fun and entertainment in the chilly night air of the courtyard after a delicious feast complete with some great toasts and singing.
The wedding day started in the late afternoon at Jennifer’s quintessential New Orleans suburban home and at twilight we headed to the ceremony – you may recognize the chapel – it is the Sacred Heart Academy chapel where Marianne and Kieran were married (our first New Orleans wedding)
After the twilight ceremony, we headed to the Audubon golf club for the reception and live music carried the night in a dancing frenzy including the ever-popular spontaneous second-line dance around the building. Fresh steamed clams, made-to-order quesadillas, mashed potato martini’s and tray-passed late night breakfast sandwiches were some of the great fare.
Our good friend and fellow photographer Jeff Youngren joined me for the trip which was a ton of fun. On the last day, we went for a swamp tour and headed to the Checkered Parrot to watch the Charger game and ended up having the best chicken wings I’ve ever had! Oh yes, my other recommendation..the Sugar Shack fried catfish sandwich was INCREDIBLE!!!

For those of you in Southern California, last week was some crazy weather! Jenna and Dusty’s wedding wasn’t really a whole lot different
A post-Thanksgiving storm blew in, and dumped for most of their wedding. I have to say, though, that it didn’t really affect the spirits of the wedding. This was a really good time, and I think its safe to say that every guest had a really good time.
Believe it or not, I went to grade school with Dusty. We had lost contact after high school, and it was really exciting to have the opportunity shoot his wedding. He met a wonderful girl Jenna at medical school in Arizona, and the two of them make a really fun team. I have to admit – its a little daunting to be hanging out with not one, but two doctors-in-training
We went out to Sunset Cliffs for their San Diego Engagement Session, and actually had similar weather as we ended up having on their wedding.
Their ceremony was at the Mission de Alcala in Mission Valley. This church photographs SO well! We stepped outside after the ceremony and it had just started to rain, so we dashed over to the beach. Lucky us – clear skies and a break in the storm! After shooting with the wedding party, we got some amazing images that really highlighted the wind, clouds, and colors!
The reception was at the Darlington House in La Jolla. Thankfully they had a tent for the reception, as a downpour ensued right as we arrived! The rain created an intimate and fun environment for the reception, that included some hilarious toasts and great dancing. Congrats guys!
A shout-out to Kathy Wright for designing some stunning floral arrangements! Wow – look a the girls bouquets!

Yes, its true. After 5+ years at our cute little studio space in Little Italy, we’re officially hitting the road and moving shop to Kensington. For those of you not familiar with the area – don’t worry, we’re not going far. Kensington is a really cute area about 10 minutes east of where we currently are located.
Our new studio space is located directly above the Starbucks in Kensington! We’ll have a two-story loft with more than double the space we had in Little Italy!
As we speak, we’re packing boxes and moving! We’re looking forward to inviting everyone over for an Open House soon. And, of course, pictures of our move soon to follow
Please be a little patient with us over the next week if we’re not “johnny-on-the-spot” on email and phones – we will get back to you
It’s been an interesting week in San Diego, with all the unusual rainy weather, but our team has stayed hard at work so this week we treated our selves to some fish tacos in Point Loma. We made the trip to the Brigantine located on Shelter Island. The restaurant has a very cozy feel to it with it’s dimly lit room and fireplace in the middle.
The food was very good. Most of us ordered the fish taco special plate that came with two big fish tacos and a side of coleslaw and french fries. You could also substitute the fries for kettle chips. The tacos were very tasty and filling. I don’t know if they were better than other fish tacos around but the comfortable ambiance and quality food makes this place worth checking out.

I feel so fortunate to have had this wedding this year! Debbie and Soun met with me a few weeks before their wedding and we hit it off quite well – quickly we did an engagement session and got excited for the wedding. They held their ceremony at the Japanese Friendship Gardens in Balboa Park which turned out to be perfect for the time of day that they had their ceremony. Afterward, we got one of my favorite shots of the year – the light was coming through the bamboo like I have never seen. So cool!
I was blessed to have Cary Pennington shooting with me and the whole day proved why November in San Diego is a perfectly fine time to get married – it was gorgeous. The wedding party was quite fun and really went nuts on the dance floor later at the reception at the Lucky Star Restaurant.

Now for part two of Kim and Joey’s engagement session. After spending time in a field, we may our way to the beach and captured these awesome shots. Kim and Joey did a quick wardrobe change in the back of their car and we shot till sunset everywhere that wasn’t covered with moss
