The Crosson family came to us for some family portraits and knew we could deliver something a little fun and different for them. I had a GREAT time shooting with all of them – such a smart and fun family! The whole family was not only beautiful but well-traveled and very talented; one daughter working in London, the other a chef at The Lodge at Torrey Pines. We timed everything well and I hit up a couple of my favorite spots downtown with them. Thanks guys for a great time and an amazing shoot!

You may remember seeing Tina and Marshall on our blog – we shot their fantastic Humphrey’s wedding in October of 2006 and they have always been incredibly sweet and fun people to work with. A couple months ago Tina called me to arrange some family portraits in Escondido and I was happy to see everyone again and meet the new additions to the family that had come along since the wedding!

I loved this abandoned schoolhouse near their residence…

A few weeks ago, John, the best jazz trumpet player I know and former groom of ours called me up to work on some portraits of his Jazz Quintet – I knew we needed some sweet headshots but also an epic group shot or two so, we spent a couple hours making these (In and around Crill Performance Hall at PLNU):

This week we were missing both Bronson and Jacob but luckily we had Joe Park a great local wedding videographer join us so we had plenty of great company and conversation.

I think we all had the same idea for lunch, we all order one of Mimmos’s delicous sub sandwiches.

I of course got the raspberry ice tea, which made it feel even more like summer.

And nothing beats the patio at Mimmos with plenty of shade to keep us cool in this warm weather.

After lunch without our two super star models we needed someone to step forward and do a portrait session so Eder decided to try his hand at posing in front of the camera instead of staying comfortably behind it.

He started a bit stiff…after all he had big shoes to fill with Bronson and Jacob’s crazy modeling skill…

but as the session progressed he loosened up a bit.

And here is really working it…I titled this picture “Bronson and Jacob please come back”.

So with five minutes on our hands what else was there to do but have a good old fashion alley portrait session.

Bronson really knows how to work the camera!

Once they opened we realized that this was a pretty small place with not a lot of seating. We all order pizza except Jacob who went for a meatball sub.

The selection of pizza by the slice was pretty small, I ordered one slice of deep dish pizza and one slice of thin crust and they were both just okay…

but I have to say that for a Chicago style pizza place where deep dish should be their strong suit I liked the thin crust pizza better but I would take Bronx pizza any day over Lefty’s.

I brought in some of her favorite toys…for those of you with dogs I highly recommend the hide-a-squirrel, it is hilarious to watch.

I think Riley should become our new photography studio mascot!

The restaurant was clean, the staff was very friendly, we received our food quickly (which as you all are aware is important to us), and everything tasted fresh and delicious.

I ordered the grilled chicken sandwich which came with a honey bbq sauce however I opted to use the Polynesian sauce Bronson had with his chicken tenders instead and it was excellent.

As usual Bronson had another fun portrait session after lunch.

And I made another celeb magazine cover…darn paparazzi they are everywhere!

During these winter months down here at the studio, we’re super busy meeting with couples about summer weddings and getting albums ready to go from last year. Its such a nice change of pace, but I’ve got to admit – its about this time of year that I start itching to shoot more. Summer is just around the corner, and with that comes lots and lots of wedding photography!

We are starting to do a lot of family portraits nowadays I think all of our couples are starting to have kids or something I love it though! Portrait sessions are a fantastic diversion from wedding photography, as you’re still working with people, but its a totally different pace than weddings. I’ve been so blessed to work with Jean and Andy so much, first at their wedding, and now at baptisms and family portrait sessions. Here’s to the kids!
